Cooperstown
A trip to Cooperstown in the winter or a trip to Aruba? No contest!
During my last trip to Cooperstown to do research on Lajoie, I was accompanied by my future son-in-law. After helping me do some copying work, Eric took me out for dinner and a beer . After presenting me with a great baseball tee shirt., he asked for permission to marry my daughter. Remembering how when I was kid a favorite way of testing the mettle of a friend was to start punching him on the arm until he could name 10 cigarettes, I thought of asking Eric to do military push-ups while reciting at least thirty members of the Hall of Fame. I rejected the idea when I learned that Eric, a proud Polish guy, didn't know "Stan the Man" Musial was Polish. I did ask him how much he made a year. He got off easy, but he's a nice guy.
